Chorizo recognition

Top tip ... from a helpful Portugese lady

if the string tieing the end of a chorizo is black then its mild. If the string is red it will be spicy and if the string is red & green then its made from the black pig and of supierior quality.

Tolls ... take note

Update from the Algarve...
Be aware that the motorway that crosses the Algarve (A22) is now a toll road. Plate recognition technology tracks you and you then have up to 5 days to pay it at a post office. The rental company did not volunteer this info I had to ask. If not paid the rental company send it to your to home address with a fine!
Cost from Luz to Faro and back around 12 euros. Suffice to say the motorway was virtually empty even at 8 in the morning. However the N road that isnt tolled was rather busy ....

Of surf and beer

With a week remaining I have to report that we have journeyed to the western most end of the Algareve to a delightful little enclave known as Sagres - famous locally for having originated a rather cheeky brew that still bears its name. In addition there is surfing at some of the surrounding beaches (if only we could get the bus here!). Anyway a delightful time basking on a large and sparsely populated golden beach with cool transparent turquoise water gently washing along the shore made for a rather languid but very pleasant afternoon.

Luz

As England drowns in response to earlier accusations of droughts and hose pipe bans; the beautiful one and myself are turning a rather fetching shade of healthy bronze as we bask in the warmth of an Algarvian summer.
The rather strange resort of Luz is our current summer residence. It is with out doubt a nice peaceful resort, idea for R&R away from the bustle of everyday life (..as per brochures and press releases), however it has a large English ex pat community and a rather strange feeling to it that is difficult to describe.
Just think of Michael Crichton,s West World and you will get my drift .......

sage advice ...

As we prepare to decamp to the Algarve for much needed R&R, the Bish passed on a memorable top tip ...

"....both of you over indulge on cider on the first night and get the obligatory argument out the way so you can all enjoy a happy break!"

Such wise words.....
